So I made a promise

that I would end this blog if I received a certain type of response from PoC concerning my approach to racism. I’m not getting into anything specific, I don’t want to start anybody else fighting, but the only honest thing I can do at this point is stop posting.

I’ve fucked up a lot and no amount of apologizing will change that, but still I’m sorry for the many mistakes I have made.

I can never thank you all enough for teaching me so much, and for being such kind people and good friends. I hope some of us can stay in touch.

I’m not deleting, I’m leaving the archive here. It also wouldn’t feel honest to delete my mistakes. I’ll be in chat or on Skype from time to time.

Be well.

Has anyone called Azealia Banks out directly? Like on twitter or tumblr? I’m curious. Like for serious I’m not tryna start anything or be passive aggressive. I’ve been thinking about writing her a letter and sending it to her on here.

If someone (a trans* POC) would like to compose an open letter to Azealia Banks on this subject, I’d gladly review it for publication on The Black Kids Table.

British Empire was a beacon for tolerance, decency, and the rule of law.

Historian Dominic Sandbrook.

No, Dominic. You mean it was a rotting pit of human rights violations, intolerance, slavery, censorship, land theft, unmarked graves for natives, sodomy against slaves, interrogation that involved mutilating bodies for extraction of information, dragging people behind Land Rovers, more brutality, systematic erasure of histories and identities, and a whole lot more.

I don’t see an inkling of tolerance, decency in a rule of law that was oppressive, racist, expansionist-based and, most importantly, illegal. I am just amazed to know that this man and Ferguson and others like them are still regarded as “authentic historians” in the US and the UK.

Fucking dumbass. Tell that to my grandfather who was hunted down by the British and even shot and jailed for protesting against the British occupation of Mother India.

The Lynching of Persons of Mexican Origin or Descent in the United States, 1848 to 1928

From: Journal of Social History
Volume 37, Number 2, Winter 2003
pp. 411-438 | 10.1353/jsh.2003.0169

Abstract

The lynching of persons of Mexican origin or descent has been largely overlooked by historians of American mob violence. This essay offers the first attempt to construct a systematic set of data on the subject. The authors contend that between 1848 and 1928, mobs lynched at least 597 Mexicans. Traditional interpretations of western violence cannot account for this phenomenon. The actual causes of mob violence against Mexicans were several-fold: race and the legacy of Anglo American expansion, economic competition, and diplomatic tensions between Mexico and the United States. Throughout this era, Mexicans formulated numerous means of resistance against Anglo mobs. These included armed self-defense, public protest, the establishment of mutual defense organizations, and appeals for aid to the Mexican government. The central aim of this essay is to broaden the scholarly discourse on lynching by moving beyond the traditional limitations of the black/white paradigm. Placing the experience of Mexicans into the history of lynching expands our understanding of the causes of mob violence and the ways in which individuals and groups sought to resist lynching and vigilantism. The essay is based on numerous archival sources in both Spanish and English. These include diaries, letters, memoirs, folk culture, newspapers, government documents, and diplomatic correspondence.

Sri Lanka

howshinisterofme:

This is difficult for me to talk about since it hits a lot of raw points for me. Even within my family we don’t really discuss it. And I know after making this post I’m going to be depressed for a while. So just bare with me while I get my thoughts out.

There are two groups of people in Sri Lanka, the Tamils and Sinhalese. The people who run the country and who are the government are the Sinhalese. And there is a state sponsored genocide against Tamil people in Sri Lanka. The civil war may be over but it’s still unsafe to be Tamil in Sri Lanka right now. Last I heard over two years ago, Tamil people were in “camps” until they got better “houses”. The news we get are unreliable and we really have no clue what’s going on over there. I don’t know if my people are safe, if my family is safe. I really don’t. Most of my family have moved out of Sri Lanka but my grandmother (on my dad’s side) is still living over there.

There has been discrimination against Tamil people since the 1940’s probably even longer.

The last I heard the UN doesn’t really give a fuck what’s happening to my people.

If you want to know more about this there is a documentary called Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields which has two parts. If you can view it in your country I suggest you watch it. Although, I must warn you that it is HIGHLY triggering and features….horrifying things done to my people. I could only watch 5 minutes myself. If you can watch it, please do.

You can Google ‘Sri Lanka’ and it doesn’t come up that all these people have been murdered or bombed, it’s ‘Come to Sri Lanka on vacation, there are beautiful beaches’ … you’re not gonna get the truth till you hit like, page 56, and it’s my and your responsibility to pass on the information that it’s not easy anymore.

TW: R*pe and sexual assault. Quotes by GOP members about r*pe

alexandraerin:

strugglingtobeheard:

Really, don’t read if you are triggered by rape apologism and medical industries lying about how rape works. Ok, so on point radio was talking about Todd Akin’s comments about legitimate rape. And I saw this comment on facebook that was really good. A man named Richard compiled it and it is on the on point radio page comments about Todd Akin if you want the original source. I didn’t compile these. But I NEEED to share them:

“I would hope that when a woman goes into a physician, with a rape issue, that that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage, or was it truly caused by a rape.”
- Senator Chuck Winder, R- Idaho, 2012
“Most women either are not fertile during assault or do not become pregnant because the trauma prompts a hormonal response that prevents ovulation.”
- Dr. Richard Dobbins, 20-year GOP contributor, 2006
“Concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami.”
- Judge James Leon Holmes, Bush appointee
“The facts show that people who are raped — who are truly raped — the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work and they don’t get pregnant. Medical authorities agree that this is a rarity, if ever … to get pregnant, it takes a little cooperation. And there ain’t much cooperation in a rape.”
- Rep. Henry Aldridge, R- North Carolina, 1995
“The odds that a woman who is raped will get pregnant are one in millions and millions and millions […] The traumatic experience of rape causes a woman to secrete a certain secretion that tends to kill sperm.”
- Delaware state Rep. Stephen Freind, R-Delaware County, 1988

so i believe all these men are rapists, this is my stance. even if it’s not yours. but look at the wording. it’s disgusting.

I’ll say again: the GOP is distancing themselves from Todd Akin not because they disagree with what he said or his reason for saying it, but because they can see which way the political winds are blowing. He’s being punished for saying it too loudly, too baldly, too close to the election and thereby damaging their chances to seize control of enough of the government to make these beliefs into the law of the land.

Something I've noticed about people and giving money to strangers.

liberal-life-and-randomness:

Is that if you’re a person who has means to give money, and you don’t, there’s always some sort of excuse you give as to why.

“That person might not really be homeless.”

“They might use the money for drugs.”

“They probably deserve where they are.”

“You can never tell if those ‘homeless vets’ are actually veterens or homeless anyway.”

“If you can afford to write you need money on cardboard, you can afford a meal.”

And so on.

And the general trend is that these people are either lying, doing illegal activity, or they deserve where they are in life. There is no compassion, no thought for how that person might be living right now, no consideration for the family they might have, or the unfortunate circumstances that might have lead them there.

There have been countless times where my mom and I are driving, and we actually DO have cash to spare, and she says “they’re probably not even homeless, you can never tell, you know.” And I just can’t help but think… You know, they may not be homeless, but what kind of state are they living in if they’re pan handling in 90+ degree weather where the temperature you feel is ten degrees higher than what it actually is, and the humidity is practically chocking you? What kind of state of living are you in where you’re asking strangers that you KNOW are judging you to spare change?

I mean, the fact that people will go through mental gymnastics to justify not helping people is astounding, and often times it involves demonizing people who need help.

I feel like a lot of Conservatives run off of this same kind of mentality. Don’t have welfare, because those people will use it for drugs. Don’t do food stamps, because if a person can afford a phone, they can afford to buy their own food. Don’t raise minimum wage, if they have to work a job like that, they obviously put themselves in that place.

Any kind of reasoning to not help people who need help. Any kind of reasoning to make yourself feel better for not sparing some change or cash that you don’t need to give it to someone who does.

I mean, if you can make people out to be lazy, drug addicted scum who brought it on themselves, why should you be obligated to help? It doesn’t matter if they’re not actually drug addicts, or if they got laid off their job because the economy sucks, or if they’re working two minimum wage jobs just to live pay check to pay check, or not even working at all because they can’t actually get a job.

As long as you make people feel like they don’t deserve the help, you’re in the clear.

It’s disgusting.

It amazes me also that a lot of Republicans/Conservatives are so anti-poor, anti-charity, anti-heath care, etc etc, but call themselves ‘Christians’.

Like… Did you read the Sermon on the Mount O_O

eastafrodite:

If you don’t believe men have been cultured to think they can coerce and control women, then you obviously haven’t seen the way they act in bars/clubs when they assume a woman is drunk or alone.

Relevant to both Todd Akin and every pro-lifer who says pregnancies from rape “aren’t that common” or “don’t happen enough to matter.”

Hey, Tumblr, can we get this post liked and/or reblogged at least 32,101 times?

I need to apologize for making a bunch of casual racism posts because a few people have told me since that they were for PoC only so I’m sorry and I’ll shut up now.

Casual racism is believing that the shared experiences of People of Color concerning racism are biased but then believing that Fox News is fair and balanced.

Fuck NO, social justice warriors.: Only white people.

epitaphfortheraceofman:

tinyblacktears:

birdsy-purplefish:

popular-slut-club:

Only white people will take the 16.5% of hate crimes committed against them, and try to say it’s more important, or just as damaging as the 71.5% committed against black PoC.

Only white folks will interpret that as “but…

“Every 36 hours, black people are killed by authority figures”?  Where does this come from, anyway?  It’s suspiciously close to the FBI-supported fact that in recent years (2004-2010), on average 224 murders for which the races of perpetrator and victim are known are white-on-black.

The numbers for black-on-white murder and black-on-black murder are 512 and 2785, respectively.

The numbers popular-slut-club cites for hate crimes are suspiciously close to population numbers, too.  This is unlikely, considering black people commit a disproportionate amount of every kind of violent crime, and particularly so for interracial crime — for instance, the numbers above, which rely on the FBI Crime in the United States reports, show that black people commit 70% of interracial murders while being about 12% of the population.

I need you to sit back for a minute and think about the fact that you literally took the time to type all that out and actually said nothing.

Casual racism is insisting that people in the US (a country with no official language) speak English whilst traveling on vacation  to countries where English is not the national language and demanding that the residents speak English to accomodate you.

Casual racism is the fact that I have 3750 followers because white people don’t want to have to hear their anti-racism directly from People of Color.

Casual racism is constantly differentiating between Black people and queer people because you don’t recognize the humanity of Black people enough to accept that they can be queer too.
